Best gay 2022
I'm tired of seeing the same 10 films on every website's LGBTQ+ production roundup (hey, I still love Call Me by Your Name and Moonlight just as much as the next person, so don't come for me!), so, as a queer person myself, I wanted to shine a delicate on some underrated movies that simply don't get the attention or credit they deserve. Below are 40 that I genuinely reflect you'll love, and if you long even more options, you can review out my running list on Letterboxd with nearly films. Enjoy!
1.Young Hearts () is a new coming-of-age story about two year-old boys who fall in love for the first time. This Belgian movie is awkward and pleasant and painfully concrete. I can't rave enough about it, and the only downside is that it wasn't released 20 years ago when I was their age and needed it most.
2.National Anthem () is one of my favorite movies from the last scant years, so I'm sort of hoping (well, demanding) that you watch it. It's a tender, refreshing look at queerness and chosen family and what it means to actually belong. Too many people are sleeping on Charlie Plummer, Best Gay Shorts [and Where to Watch Them]
There are so many gay-themed limited films out there, but many of them are a waste of day, either because the filmmaking is shoddy or the storytelling is dated. [That said, there are fleeting films made shoddily that transcend their flaws and become camp. And there are dated films that become significant because they are great reflections of the times they were made in. So all these is pretty subjective, if you ask me.]
I decided to put together an alphabetical list of gay short films I've loved/liked/appreciated for some reason, all of them at least I've ⭑⭑½-starred. [This rating is above average for me.]
For my purposes, this is a list of narrative/fictional limited films, but experimental limited films are also included. However, to keep the list manageable, I've decided not to include quick subject documentaries [with some special exceptions] and womxn loving womxn short films [also with one special exception]. I am also not including titles I've not seen, so this is cute much a curated list. [Suggestions, however, will be highly appreciated
